BIOGRAPHY

Emyr is a tenor from North Wales who is a Young Artist at the National Opera Studio 24/25. He previously studied on the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Susan Waters. Emyr holds BMus and MMus degrees from the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied under Quentin Hayes.

 

Emyr’s recent operatic highlights include Oronte in Handel’s Alcina (GSMD), Don Riccardo in Verdi’s Ernani (BIF), Fulgor in the world premiere of A Star Next To The Moon by Stephen McNeff (GSMD), Eckbert in Judith Weir’s Blond Eckbert (GSMD) and Bunyan, Evangelist and Watchful in Vaughan Williams’ The Pilgrim's Progress (BYO).

 

Emyr was the 2022 winner of the Pendine International Voice of the Future at Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and was the 2024 winner of the Dunraven Young Welsh Singer of the Year award. Emyr was a semi-finalist at this year’s Kathleen Ferrier Awards at the Wigmore Hall. During his time at the RNCM, Emyr was the winner of the Joyce and Michael Kennedy award for the singing of Strauss, the Alexander Young Prize, the Oncken song prize and the Elsie Thurston prize. At the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Emyr is a previous winner of the Blue Ribband for folk singing.
